High-pressure injection injuries occur when a substance such as paint, grease, or hydraulic fluid is injected into the hand under pressure.
Initially, these injuries may appear minor but are in fact a medical emergency.

- Small puncture wound/lesions
- Minimal or no pain initially
- As Swelling develops, pain and paraesthesia can occur
- Industrial equipment accidents
- Hydraulic lines or fittings
- Paint or grease guns
- Pressure washers
- Fuel injection systems
- History including mechanism of injury – type and pressure of substance involved.
- Clinical Examination of small puncture wound/s, swelling, pain, sensation and circulation.
- Xray to identify location and extent of foreign material.

Depending on the type of fluid injected, x-rays can be useful to determine how far the fluid has travelled.
