A ganglion cyst is a fluid-filled lump that most often appears along the tendons or joints of the hands and wrists.

Common locations include:

  • Dorsal wrist ganglion, on the back of the wrist and commonly associated with the scapholunate joint
  • Palmar (volar) wrist ganglion, on the palm side of the wrist
  • Flexor tendon sheath ganglion, near the tendon sheath at the base of a finger
  • Digital mucous cyst, on the back of the end joint of a finger and often associated with osteoarthritis
