Kienbock’s disease affects the lunate, one of the small carpal bones in the wrist. It occurs when the blood supply to the lunate is reduced or interrupted, which can lead to bone tissue death (avascular necrosis).

If the condition progresses, the lunate can weaken, deteriorate and collapse, causing pain, stiffness, and reduced wrist movement and function.
